From feminist liberation groups to reproductive and civil rights movements, plus peace, labour, and environmental activism, Canadian women were busy in the 1960s and into the 1970s fighting for equality and improving people’s lives locally and internationally. This talk will exam the unique nature of women’s mobilization in era called “second wave feminism” while finding continuity in women’s political and social action in earlier periods and contemporary times.

Tarah Brookfield
Tarah Brookfield is a dean and professor of history at Wilfrid Laurier University. Prior to teaching at Laurier, she taught at York University, Trent University, and Brock University. Tarah is a member of the Canadian Historical Association and the Society for the History of Children and Youth. She is the author of Cold War Comforts: Canadian Women, Global Insecurity, and Child Safety, 1945-1975 and Our Voices Must Be Heard: Women and the Vote in Ontario.
