“Being Canadian Today”—that was theme of the Winter 2026 lecture series organized by Third Age
Learning Kitchener-Waterloo. For eight consecutive Tuesdays, leading experts from across the country
explored the distinctly Canadian experience at this pivotal time in history.
Connecting via Zoom, approximately 450 participants tuned in to the lectures and learned about the
forces currently redefining Canada as a nation. Topics included the arts, trade, immigration, healthcare,
education, and history. Lecturers included educators, researchers, a singer, an economist, and a
Canadian Olympian.
One attendee commented: “Great caliber of speakers! Enjoyed the diversity of speakers.” Another one
said, “I learned something from every speaker.”
“All the presenters had pertinent knowledge to share and did so in a professional manner and in a way
the audience members could understand and stay engaged throughout the presentations,” said one
attendee.
For more than 35 years Third Age Learning Kitchener-Waterloo (TAL-KW) has provided intellectually
stimulating programs for mature learners who are pursuing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and
embracing innovation. Each year TAL-KW offers two lecture series: one in the autumn and one in the
winter.
One loyal follower testifies, “I always learn something new and always appreciate hearing viewpoints
from informed knowledgeable people about a variety of topics.”
Planning is happening now for the Fall 2026 series, scheduled to run on eight Tuesdays from October 13
through December 1. The lectures will be presented live at RIM Park, and series tickets will be available
